The S. B. Garda college trust was established on 20th March 1945 and S.B.Garda Arts College was started in June 1945 at Navsari. In 1945 the scenario of Navsari was quite different from what it is today. The total population of Navsari was about 30,000 at that time and there were only two high schools imparting education upto matriculate examination of Bombay University. After completing matriculation, students had to either go to Surat or Bombay for higher education. It was during this period that Late Shri Sorabji B. Garda B. P. Baria Science Institute was established in June 1946 at a time when there were no other institutions offering higher education in science in our region.

The college has been permanently affiliated to Veer Narmad South Gujarat University, Surat and is recognized under Sections 2 ( f ) and 12 ( B ) of the UGC Acts of 1956. The college offers UG programme in five subjects of science viz. Microbiology, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and Zoology. The course includes additional subjects of Language through Literature (English), Environmental Studies, Industrial Chemistry, Marine Science, Renewable energy Sources, Non- renewable energy sources, Mathematical Modelling I & II, Petrochemicals, Microbiology Laboratory Hazard & Precaution, Bio Safety, Fisheries, Electronics, Operation research and extension activities like NSS, NCC, PT, SCOPE and Saptadhara.

Our esteemed institute, which was started in 1946, will be celebrating its Platinum Jubilee in June 2021 after completing 75 successful years. The institute was established with an aim to provide education of the highest standard in basic sciences to the students coming from rural and urban areas when there was a dearth of such institutions. Our institute is one of the oldest science colleges in India.

Navsari is a very old city. As per historical records, Parsis were the first settlers around 1050 - 1100 AD in India. As endorsed by our honorable prime minister Shri Narendrabhai Damodardas Modi, Parsi’s are a micro minority community who have never put forth any demands on the government or the nation but have given their very best in all fields to the nation. The community has proved the old saying : “Parsi, thy name is charity”, to be true by donating large amounts for establishing educational and healthcare institutions for the residents of Navsari and adjoining areas. Our educational trust was established in 1945 with the aim of providing quality education to the young generation of this region and outside. It has been a social commitment of overall development of the young generation and their career building. The institution is committed to equip the young generation to become prolific, productive, pro- active, human resources and responsible citizen of Nation.

Emblem of college is suggestive of its vision. The world 'Excelsior' in it suggest the achievement of more and more good. The symbol on its left signifies proficiency, brilliance and excellence, while the symbol on its right signifies the awareness and exploration of the smallest to the largest mysteries of the world.
